Belgaum-a beautiful City situated in a valley 500 kilometers south of Bombay along the cost, altitude is 3000 feet. We are 120 kilometers from the beautiful beaches of Goa. We have a railway station and an airport as well. Population of approximately 450,000. It is districts headquarter. Weather is beautiful all months, temp. ranging 10-35 Celsius. It rains from June to September.

From Belgaum 60 miles towards Bombay is known as Tobacco belt, lot of tobacco is grown here and also consumed. Oral cancer, leukoplakia and Submucous fibrosis is common. Also in this region dental caries is on the rise from dmft 3.5 and up. There are also several pockets of high fluorosis because of high fluoride content of the well water in villages. Basic research center would help us to systematically study these problems. We would also like to evaluate dental materials being used by Indian dentists. We need guidance in starting this center and suggestions regarding the type of equipment (e.g. tissue processing, fluoride est. cancer detection, data processing, material testing, photography etc.) and tell us which agency would come forward to give us financial assistance for this purpose. At present no such center exists in India outside of Govt. bodies. Suggestions for this center, which is being started with the hope that in the years to come it will become the biggest of its kind and will contribute substantially to the well-being of people suffering from dental diseases.
